Grades from the Jets’ 34-16 win over the Broncos on Sunday:
Offense
The Jets rolled up 512 total yards, their most in five years. RB Isaiah Crowell (15 rushes, 219 yards, 1 TD) averaged 14.6 yards per carry and ran all over the Broncos defense. RB Bilal Powell (20 rushes, 99 yards) was right behind him. QB Sam Darnold (10-of-22, 198 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT) connected with WR Robby Anderson (3 receptions, 123 yards, 2 TDs) on two long touchdown passes. The offensive line was terrific, allowing only one sack and clearing the way for 323 yards rushing.
Grade: A-
Defense
The final numbers were deceiving because the Broncos piled up some garbage-time yards, but the Jets defense was all over Case Keenum and Co. all day long. Keenum was sacked four times, including twice by Leonard Williams. After some early success running the ball, Denver was shut down. The coverage was strong even without top cornerback Trumaine Johnson and third corner Buster Skrine, who left the game with a concussion in the first quarter.
Grade: B+
Special teams
Andre Roberts added another huge punt return to his résumé, this one a 51-yarder. Punter Lachlan Edwards pinned the Broncos inside the 20 twice. Kicker Jason Myers missed a 30-yard field goal, but bounced back with field goals of 49 and 30 yards.
Grade: B+
Coaching
Give a lot of credit to Todd Bowles. The Jets could have splintered after last week’s tough loss in Jacksonville. He got them refocused. He also called a good game in place of defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers and did not let Rodgers’ illness become a distraction for the team. Offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates did a great job neutralizing the Broncos pass rush with his scheme.
