After waiting until the fifth round to take a defensive player, Jets general manager Joe Douglas took three in the round.

Pittsburgh cornerback Jason Pinnock was the Jets’ last selection in the round, coming at pick 175, which they acquired in a trade with the Chiefs.

Pinnock joins Auburn linebacker Jamien Sherwood and Duke cornerback Michael Carter II as the Jets’ fifth-round picks. The 6-foot, 204-pound Pinnock did not become a full-time starter for the Panthers until his senior year. He ran a 4.45 40-yard dash and has impressive measurables. He led the Panthers with three interceptions and had eight passes defended in each of his final three seasons in college.

The Jets are very thin at cornerback, so Pinnock could see time as a rookie on defense and he definitely will play special teams.

The Jets sent pick 162 and a sixth-round pick (226) to Kansas City for pick 175 and a sixth-round pick (207) as part of a trade in the fifth round. The Jets have three picks in the sixth round.
