The Jets hope they found a short-yardage complement to Le’Veon Bell, a change-of-pace power back that could provide punch at the goal-line.
With their first of three fourth-round picks on Saturday, the Jets took Florida’s Lamical Perine, a 5-foot-11, 216-pound bulldozer who scored 30 touchdowns in his four-year career with the Gators.
Adding depth in the offensive backfield was one area of need entering the draft, as general manager Joe Douglas continued to fortify an offense in need of more weapons with the 120th overall selection.
Perine finished his career with 2,485 yards, the eighth-most in program history. He has rich NFL bloodlines. He is cousins with current Dolphins running back Samaje Perine and Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack.
