Jets coach Adam Gase turned to a familiar face Tuesday to help fill the linebacker void left by the injured Avery Williamson.
The Jets announced the signing of linebacker Stephone Anthony. Anthony, a former first-rounder, played in Miami the last couple of years with Gase and was drafted to the Saints, who had linebacker coach Joe Vitt.
Vitt is now the Jets’ senior defensive assistant for outside linebackers. The team also said it waived safety Santos Ramirez.
Anthony was recently cut by the Falcons who signed him in July.
The Jets lost Williamson for the season after the linebacker tore his ACL in the Jets’ preseason win over the Falcons on Thursday. Gase later expressed regret and took the blame for keeping Williamson in the game too long.
