The Jets won’t be making another quarterback change … yet.
Coach Robert Saleh said Saturday Tim Boyle will start at quarterback in their next game, Dec. 3 against the Falcons.
“Yeah, we’re giving Timmy another shot to roll next week,” Saleh said. “Obviously, there are things that he could have done better. There are things he had no control over. I know he battled out there. We were able to get to certain calls that we were hoping to. We were able to execute a lot of the different things that we wanted to execute. It just didn’t come to full fruition.”
The Jets benched Zach Wilson last week and made Boyle the starter for their Black Friday game against the Dolphins. The offense did not look any better with Boyle, as they scored just one touchdown and that came in garbage time.
Boyle completed 27 of 38 passes for 179 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, one that came on the Hail Mary before halftime that resulted in a 99-yard touchdown return by Jevon Holland.
Tim Boyle will be the Jets starting quarterback again this week against the Falcons. Charles Wenzelberg / New York PostThe Jets have veteran Trevor Siemian backing Boyle up.
He would be the next quarterback to get a shot if the Jets make another change.
Aaron Rodgers is back with the team and still hoping to return this season, but that is looking less likely with each loss they suffer.
Saleh said Rodgers will be with the team this week but he is not sure when or if Rodgers will return to practice.
“He is in the building,” Saleh said. “With regard to practice, I don’t have anything for you guys on that. Like I said, when we get a doctor’s note that says he is cleared, he will be cleared for practice.”
The Jets may get some reinforcements along the offensive line this week.
OT Duane Brown was activated off of injured reserve before Friday’s game but did not play any offensive snaps.
It is possible he could return to the lineup next week against the Falcons.
OT Mekhi Becton (ankle) also missed Friday’s game but could play against the Falcons.
Guard Wes Schweitzer (calf) is eligible to be activated from IR this week and Saleh said the team is hopeful to get all three of them back.
Two Jets were fined for unnecessary roughness penalties in the Bills game. CB Sauce Gardner was fined $10,927 and TE Jeremy Ruckert was fined $6,370.
