The Jets on Tuesday took a look at a player Rex Ryan cast aside.

Running back Karlos Williams, who was cut by the Bills last week, visited the Jets, according to a source. The visit was described as “due diligence,” and no signing was imminent.

Buffalo sent Williams packing after he arrived to camp out of shape and had trouble losing the weight. Some reports had him at over 260 pounds. He is also scheduled to serve a four-game suspension at the start of the season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

Williams began camp with the Bills on the active/non-football injury list after showing up overweight. He blamed it on eating with his pregnant wife.

The second-year running back rushed for 517 yards and seven touchdowns on 93 carries as a rookie last year.

The Jets do not have a need at running back. They appear set with Matt Forte, Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson. Teams like to know their options if there is an injury, though, and that is likely what the Williams visit was about.
