The Jets are in rebuilding mode and are counting on Jamal Adams, their first-round pick, to be a cornerstone piece to the rebuild. The rookie safety will report to his first NFL training camp on time, July 28, as he signed his rookie contract Thursday night.

The four-year deal is expected to be worth $22.2 million, fully guaranteed. The Jets hold the option for a fifth year.

With Adams signed, only four first-round picks around the league have not yet agreed to terms: Defensive end Solomon Thomas (49ers), wide receiver Corey Davis (Titans), cornerback Gareon Conley (Raiders) and safety Jabrill Peppers (Browns).

It was a surprise Adams dropped to the Jets and they eagerly scooped him up with the No. 6 overall pick, adding a player considered to be a can’t-miss talent to the defensive backfield. The 5-foot-11, 214-pound Adams was impressive in the spring workouts with the Jets and is expected to be a starter from Day 1.

Adams played in 36 games the last three seasons at LSU and had 209 tackles, two sacks, five interceptions and two forced fumbles.
