This was going to be a tough game for the Jets if they were at full strength. Without their starting quarterback, play-caller on defense, No. 2 wide receiver and a key piece on the defensive line, it is hard to see how they have a chance in this one. Odell Beckham Jr. gets 175 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

Browns 27, Jets 7

Backup plan: With Sam Darnold resting at home in his apartment, the Jets will turn to Trevor Siemian as their quarterback in this one. Siemian has started 24 games in the NFL, all with the Broncos in 2016-17 and won 13 of them.

Siemian’s experience is what appealed to coach Adam Gase when the Jets were searching for a backup in free agency.

“He has a good way about him, he was the perfect guy for Sam we felt like and he’s held true to that,” Gase said. “But watching him prepare in practice and kind of seeing what he did [Wednesday], getting thrown in the ones, just his calmness, I think it’s great for our other players because he’s not a panic guy, he’s got a coolness about him and when things change at that position sometimes other guys can panic a little, but when you have a guy that is really calm and steady, then that calms everybody else down.”

Ballin’ Baker: Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield made his NFL debut last year against the Jets in prime time when he came off the bench to rip their hearts out. Now, they get to see him again. This time they know exactly what to expect.

“He just rallies the troops. He leads them in the right way,” safety Jamal Adams said. “He has so much passion and energy and swagger he plays with. Guys feed off that. As a quarterback, when you can bring that to the field, knowing that he’s going to give it his all each and every play, you’d love to have him as a teammate.”

Mayfield threw three interceptions in the second half in last week’s loss to the Titans. He will be looking for a bounceback game.

Walk the line: The Browns could cause havoc for the Jets offensive line with their front four of Myles Garrett, former Jet Sheldon Richardson, former Giant Olivier Vernon and Larry Ogunjobi.

The Browns had four sacks last week against the Titans, including two by Garrett. If the Jets offensive line can’t slow them down, Siemian could be running for his life.

Jets blockers did not have a good week in the opener against the Bills. Darnold was sacked four times, as communication issues arose up-front and center Ryan Kalil looked rusty.

Missing Mosley: The Jets defense collapsed last week in the fourth quarter against the Bills after inside linebacker C.J. Mosley exited with a groin injury. This week, Mosley won’t play. How will the Jets survive four quarters without him when they could not last one a week ago?

“We’ve fixed it and it’s going to be different. It won’t happen again,” Adams said.

It is probably not that easy. Mosley showed his value last week. He was all over the field, had an interception return for a touchdown and a fumble recovery. The Jets are already missing Avery Williamson, so Neville Hewitt and rookie Blake Cashman will be at inside linebacker. That could be a huge issue.
