Costello’s Call
The Jets have played better over the last month, but this is too much to ask. The Seahawks will be a focused bunch after last week’s loss to the Giants. This one will be ugly. Seahawks 44, Jets 7

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams vs. Jets QB Sam Darnold
You can bet this game has been circled on Adams’ calendar since July, when the Jets traded him to the Seahawks. The 2017 first-round pick for the Jets will be out to wreak havoc on his former team in this game. He has been a pass-rushing menace for Seattle. He has 7.5 sacks in eight games. He needs a half-sack to tie Adrian Wilson’s record for sacks by a defensive back, set in 2005. You know he would love to do it against Darnold and the Jets.
Darnold played one of his better games of the season last week, but did turn the ball over three times (one interception, two fumbles). He needs to keep his head on a swivel and know where No. 33 lines up.
“I mean, he does everything really well, he attacks the run, rushes the passer better than most, so again we’re just going to have to be aware of where he is,” Darnold said. “And Jamal is a great player, obviously yeah, it’s a little bit different seeing him on the other side and scouting him and doing all those things, but again like I said in the beginning, we’re looking forward to going against him.”
Four Downs
Let’s Be Frank: Jets coach Adam Gase fired defensive coordinator Gregg Williams on Monday morning after Williams’ boneheaded decision to call an all-out blitz on Derek Carr. Gase replaced Williams with assistant head coach/linebackers coach Frank Bush. Bush was the defensive coordinator for the Texans in 2009-10, so he has held the role before. There is only so much change that a coordinator can make in December, but it will be interesting to see if the defense looks any different with Bush in charge.
“I guess my role is to make sure that we take advantage of what these kids are trying to provide,” Bush said. “They’re busting their tails every day. They come to work every day. They play their butts off, they play hard. They kind of limit mistakes and whatnot. And we’re trying to put them in position to win.”
Missing Targets: The Jets had a nice little run with their top three wide receivers all playing together for a month. Now, it is back to normal. It looks like they will be without two of their top three receivers for this game. Rookie Denzel Mims definitely won’t play after he had to return home to Texas this week to deal with a family emergency. It appears Jamison Crowder will also be out after he suffered a calf injury Thursday and did not practice Friday. The Jets listed him as questionable, but it seems highly unlikely he will play.
Mr. Wilson: The Jets’ defense has a huge challenge in front of it this week trying to stop Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. The MVP candidate has completed 70 percent of his passes this year and has thrown 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He should have a big day against a weak Jets secondary. “You better do a good job of containing him in the pocket,” Gase said. “If he doesn’t like what he’s got going on, he breaks the pocket and then it can become a real issue. Now you’re looking at bigger plays than him just standing back there because everybody gets all spread out and all of a sudden now he hits a guy moving out of the pocket, now you’ve got possibly a really bad thing happening where you can hit guys down the field.”
On The Run: The Jets rushed for more than 200 yards last week against the Raiders, for the first time in two years. Backup Ty Johnson gained 104 yards, the Jets’ first 100-yard rusher since 2018. Can they keep it up? It may have been more about the Raiders’ defense than the Jets’ offense, but the O-line did open some holes. “I think the guys did a really good job of executing, the guys up front, especially getting a hat on a hat, played physical. And they stuck with it,” offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said.
