The Jets waived fifth wide receiver Patrick Turner on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old played in 15 games last season for the Jets, making eight catches for 96 yards.

This could be an opportunity for Clyde Gates, who the Jets claimed off waivers on Sept. 1. The Dolphins selected Gates in the fourth round of the 2011 draft. Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano was Miami’s head coach last year and is familiar with Gates.
