The Jets, who seem to be collecting free-agent defensive linemen this offseason, made possibly their biggest splash to date with the agreement to terms with former Dolphins DE David Bowens.

Bowens, who spent the past six seasons with the Dolphins and is a pass-rushing specialist (18 sacks in the past three seasons), is expected to sign his three-year, $6.1 million contract today.

Bowens is the fourth defensive lineman signed by the Jets this offseason. Kenyon Coleman, Andre Wadsworth and Michael Haynes were signed in recent weeks.

Bowens (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) has 26 career sacks and 168 total tackles in eight NFL seasons.

He’ll rotate in as a pass-rushing end or outside linebacker on passing downs to help the Jets’ pass rush, which generated 35 sacks last season.

Bowens, according to several sources, had been talking to the Panthers and Patriots but wanted to join the Jets all along. The Jets’ defensive-line coach, Dan Quinn, used to work with the Dolphins, as did offensive line coach Tony Wise.
