Take flight with the Jets
Text with Brian Costello all season as he brings Sports+ subscribers the latest Jets intel from on the field and off.
tRY IT NOWJets rookie Brady Cook looks like the most likely quarterback to start on Sunday against the Jaguars, but coach Aaron Glenn was not ready to announce him as the starter yet.
Tyrod Taylor (groin) and Justin Fields (knee) did not practice on Wednesday, meaning Cook got all of the first-team reps. Fields was seen doing some light running on a side field while the media watched the start of practice.
Glenn was not ready to rule Fields and/or Taylor out.
“We’ll see how this week progresses,” Glenn said.
The Jets signed quarterback Adrian Martinez to the practice squad as insurance if Fields and Taylor can’t go in Jacksonville.
Martinez was with the Jets in training camp but was beaten out for the No. 3 job by Cook, an undrafted free agent from Missouri.
“There’s a plan for the quarterbacks either way it works out during the week,” Glenn said. “We’ve got all our bases covered.”
Cook played last week against the Dolphins after Taylor was injured on the second series of the game.

He went 14-of-30 for 163 yards and had two interceptions.
The Jets did drop five of his passes. Cook could benefit this week from a full week of practice with the starters.
“Man, that does a lot for any quarterback,” Glenn said, “especially with building continuity with the rest of the guys, set points as far as where he’s going to be at for the O-line, receiver-quarterback communication, like any time you get reps like that with the first team with a different quarterback, it always helps. So, again, it will be good for him, but again, we’ll see how this week progresses when it comes to our quarterback situation.”
Cook was listed on the injury report with an ankle but practiced fully.
One player that Cook likely won’t have Sunday is star receiver Garrett Wilson, who remains on injured reserve. The Jets could have opened Wilson’s practice window on Wednesday but did not.
The Jets had a lengthy injury report on Wednesday.
The following players did not practice: Fields (knee), Taylor (groin), RB Breece Hall (knee), DE Jermaine Johnson II (rest), LB Kiko Mauigoa (neck), DT Harrison Phillips (rest), TE Stone Smartt (concussion), TE Mason Taylor (neck), CB Azareye’h Thomas (shoulder) and LB Quincy Williams (hand).
