Take flight with the Jets
Text with Brian Costello all season as he brings Sports+ subscribers the latest Jets intel from on the field and off.
tRY IT NOWThe Jets are going to be without Braelon Allen for an extended period.
The second-year running back, dealing with an MCL injury in his left knee, was placed on injured reserve on Thursday, but he’s going to miss much more than the mandated four games.
Coach Aaron Glenn said on Friday that Allen will be out eight to 12 weeks. It’s uncertain if Allen will rehab the injury or undergo surgery.
Both methods have the same recovery time, according to Glenn.
“We know it’s going to be a significant amount of time,” the Jets coach said. “But [whether he has surgery or opts for rehab] that will be his decision on how he wants to go about that, and I know he will make the right decision for himself.”
Braelon Allen leaves the field after suffering a knee injury in the Jets’ Week 4 loss to the Dolphins. Charles Wenzelberg/New York PostIn the wake of the news, the Jets signed running back Khalil Herbert on Thursday.
Glenn said he is unsure if Herbert will play Sunday against the Cowboys.

The Jets were hoping he could form a potent 1-2 punch in the backfield with Breece Hall. Herbert will eventually slot in at No. 3 on the running back depth chart for the Jets behind Hall and Isaiah Davis.
Expect a bigger role for the speedy Davis on Sunday.
The fifth-round pick out of South Dakota State is excited about the opportunity, although sad it had to come at the expense of his teammate, Allen.
“It’s definitely an opportunity,” said Davis, in his second year in the NFL. “I hate the way it happened, with Braelon going down, but things happen in this league. People get hurt. The next person has to step up and take on that role.”
Cornerback Michael Carter II (concussion) was ruled out.
Edge Jermaine Johnson (ankle) and running back/kick returner Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) were listed as questionable. Neither practiced this week.
Johnson has missed the past two games and Nwangwu has been out since the season opener. Glenn said that Johnson and Nwangwu could “come down to the wire” in terms of their availability.
The Jets signed running back and former Eagles return specialist Avery Williams to the practice squad and released running back Lawrance Toafili.
The Cowboys will be without three starters on the offensive line Sunday: Tyler Guyton (concussion), Tyler Booker (ankle) and Cooper Beebe (ankle).
A fourth starter, Tyler Smith (knee), is questionable. Smith didn’t practice at all this week.
