The Jets are shoring up their defensive line depth.

Gang Green acquired defensive tackle Jowon Briggs and a 2026 seventh-round pick from the Browns on Wednesday in exchange for a 2026 sixth-rounder.

He’ll likely be in competition for one of the final roster spots behind likes of Jermaine Johnson, Quinnen Williams and Byron Cowart.

Briggs’ potential impact could be see as early as the Jets’ preseason finale against the Eagles on Friday, though it remains to be seen if he’ll be up to speed by that point.

The 23-year-old was a seventh-round pick by Cleveland in 2024 after playing at Virginia and Cincinnati — a teammate of cornerback Sauce Gardner’s — posting 170 tackles and 12 sacks over 59 games.

As a pro, Briggs got into six games as a rookie, notching 13 tackles and a pair of QB hits.

The trade comes as training camps are coming to a close, with teams trying to exact any extra value from player on the roster cutline.

The Jets have yet to announce any formal roster cuts.
