It’s Week 3 and the Jets already have the cards stacked against them.

Backup Tyrod Taylor will be under center on Sunday as Justin Fields is out with a concussion. The Jets head south to Tampa after two home losses to the Steelers and Bills.

The Buccaneers, meanwhile, have enjoyed a 2-0 beginning to the season led by Baker Mayfield.

Will the Jets be able to overcome Fields’ injury? Or will Tampa Bay at home be too much to handle?

One bright spot

By Howie Kussoy

Sauce Gardner, who went to the locker room late in the fourth quarter to be evaluated for a head injury, was able to return for the final possession. The star cornerback said he passed the league's concussion protocol.

'We're not the same old Jets': head coach Aaron Glenn

By Howie Kussoy

Aaron Glenn's mentor and former coach, Bill Parcells, famously said, "You are what your record says you are."

Glenn sees more in his 0-3 squad and is banking on the Jets carrying over their fourth quarter fight through the rest of the season.

"We're not the same team as what everyone says, 'Same old Jets,'" Glenn said following the loss in Tampa Bay. "These guys are gonna fight no matter what the situation is. There's no give up in them. I hate that term. I really don't even know what that term means. They're not the same old Jets. These guys are fighters. I love these guys."

This didn't age well

By Howie Kussoy

At the moment, the Jets were on the cusp of one of the most miraculous comebacks in team history.

Now, Aaron Glenn's short-lived euphoria from the Jets' blocked field goal and touchdown return could become remembered for another reason.

How else could it end?

By Howie Kussoy

After fighting back from a 17-point fourth quarter deficit and taking the lead on Will McDonald's improbable blocked kick and touchdown return, the Jets allowed Baker Mayfield and the Bucs to drive quickly back down the field, before Chase McLaughlin found redemption by delivering a 36-yard field goal as time expired, clinching Tampa Bay's 29-27 win.

Attacking a secondary without Sauce Gardner — who was removed earlier in the fourth quarter with a head injury — the Bucs (3-0) needed just four plays to get inside the Jets' 20, following the Jets' miracle score.

The Jets (0-3) get their next chance to give Aaron Glenn his first win next Monday at Miami (0-3).

Did that really just happen?

By Howie Kussoy

With the Bucs looking to ice the game with a 43-yard field goal to go up two scores, the Jets' Will McDonald jumped over the offensive line and blocked the kick, before picking it up and returning it 50 yards to tie the game with 1:49 remaining.

Nick Folk's extra-point put the Jets ahead 27-26 after trailing by 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Signs of life

By Howie Kussoy

Tyrod Taylor still has time to make magic.

After being held without a touchdown through three quarters, the Jets scored their second touchdown of the fourth quarter on a controversial fourth-and-goal catch by Allen Lazard — which was ruled a touchdown and upheld after review — to put the Jets down 26-20 with 3:40 remaining.

Can the defense make a stop?

Sauce Gardner (head) won't be available, but either will Tampa Bay's top receiver Mike Evans, who was ruled out with a hamstring injury he suffered in the fourth quarter.

No Sauce?

By Howie Kussoy

As if today's lackluster effort hasn't been bad enough, star cornerback Sauce Gardner headed to the locker room with a Jets trainer late in the fourth quarter to be evaluated for a head injury, the team announced.

Do you believe in miracles?

By Howie Kussoy

Garrett Wilson's 11-yard touchdown catch capped a 10-play, 80-yard drive, cutting the Jets deficit to 23-13 with 10:12 remaining.

The Bucs offense has put up only 16 points today and hasn't reached the end zone since early in the second quarter.

The Jets' defense has forced a three-and-out on four of the Bucs' past six possessions.

In bad company

By Howie Kussoy

Aaron Glenn is one quarter away from losing his first three games as an NFL head coach.

In 2021, first-year Jets head coach Robert Saleh lost his first three games, finishing 4-13. In 2019, Adam Gase lost his first three games as Jets head coach.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles is the most recent Jets coach to avoid going 0-3 in his first year, having gone 10-6 during his debut season.

On to Miami

By Howie Kussoy

With 1:43 remaining in the first quarter, Breece Hall ran 17 yards for a first down.

The Jets' next first down came with 4:32 left in the third quarter.

A Tyler Johnson drop prevented the Jets from entering the red zone, forcing the team to attempt — and fail — their second fourth down play of the game.

So much for swagger

By Howie Kussoy

Just two weeks ago, the Jets entered the fourth quarter of their season-opener with a nine-point lead over the Steelers. Since then, the Jets have been outscored 67-22.

The Jets are 30 minutes from 0-3 and a few light years removed from the optimism created by the hiring of Aaron Glenn:

"Get used to winning. That's all I've been a part of my last couple of years and I don't want to do anything other than that. Winning is all I know."

En route to 0-3

By Howie Kussoy

Tyrod Taylor's uninspiring first half as the Jets' starting quarterback ended in disaster.

Looking to drive the Jets into position for a field goal before halftime, Taylor lofted a sideline pass to Garrett Wilson that was intercepted by the Bucs' Jamel Dean, who returned it 55 yards for a touchdown.

The Bucs lead, 20-6, at halftime, and start the second half with the ball.

The Jets have 90 total yards, averaging 2.8 yards per play.
