Joe Judge once built a swing set for Freddie Kitchens’ children, but now Cleveland’s former head coach could be working for him.
Kitchens, who was fired by the Browns after one season at the helm, is expected to speak with the Giants about a position on Judge’s offensive staff, according to ESPN. The Post had reported Kitchens as a candidate for the coaching staff on Wednesday.
Judge, the former Patriots special teams coordinator who was slated to be introduced Thursday by the Giants as Pat Shurmur’s replacement, worked alongside Kitchens as members of the Mississippi State coaching staff in 2005.
During media day at last year’s Super Bowl, Judge recounted a story about constructing a swing set along with another graduate assistant for Kitchens’ daughters. Kitchens coached tight ends and running backs for the Bulldogs from 2004-05 before moving on to the Dallas Cowboys as tight ends coach in 2006.
Kitchens was Cleveland’s offensive coordinator in 2018 before being promoted to head coach, but he was axed after the Browns finished 6-10 this season.
Mike Groh, who reportedly was to be fired Thursday as Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator, also could be a candidate. He and Judge coached together at Alabama.
