Joe Judge hasn’t forgotten his original promise to make Giants fans with lighter wallets feel proud.
“We’re going to put a product on the field that the people of this city and region are going to be proud of because this team will represent this area,” Judge said when he was introduced as head coach on Jan. 9, 2020. “We’re going to come to work every day and grind it out the way they do in their jobs every day, and they can invest their money in our program knowing it’s worthwhile.”
With an 8-16 record at the midpoint of his second season at the helm and coming off a 20-17 loss to the Chiefs that was marred by four personal fouls among 10 penalties, Judge was asked Tuesday if he is accomplishing that goal.
“Absolutely,” he said. “I believe we are building towards a program that is going to be very successful for a duration of time. There are a lot of things we are doing very well right now that are things we can continue to build on. There are a lot of things we can keep on correcting.”
Joe Judge N.Y. Post: Charles WenzelbergJudge, who hasn’t ducked accountability during difficult times, also referenced another key point of his Day 1 vision.
“I also talked in my opening press conference about doing it the right way — and that takes time,” Judge said. “We have to make sure we continue working hard and taking a step forward every day, and building with the right guys in this program.”
The Giants have had a hard time putting together all three phases. When they scored 29 points against Washington, the special teams and defense failed. When the defense held up against the Falcons and Chiefs, the offense didn’t do its part. Those three losses are by seven total points.
“What I see is a team that fights and competes for 60 minutes, comes to work every week intent on having success and playing as a team and representing this area with the method of how they play, which is tough, hard-working,” Judge said. “I don’t just say things. When I say something, that’s my word, and that’s what I’m working toward.”
