JuJu Smith-Schuster’s pregame dance routine did more than anger opponents. It sadly led to death threats against his mother on social media.

The Steelers wideout had made a habit of filming himself dancing before games, and spiking the ball at the 50-yard-line, and posting it on TikTok.

The display got under the skin of opponents. The Cowboys wouldn’t allow him to recreate the pre-game move after scoring a touchdown in November and Bengals safety Vonn Bell followed through on his promise to make Smith-Schuster pay for his dancing with a big hit.

But his mom, Sammy Toa-Schuster, took punishment as well. She posted on Instagram on Sunday she has been receiving threats across social media.

“After weeks of so many hate messages to death threats … I can’t help but cry when my baby scored his TD,” Toa-Schuster wrote after her son’s big game in the Steelers’ 28-24 comeback win over the Colts.

“Y’all love him when we winning but hate when we are losing.”

“For the betterment of myself and my teammates, I’m going to stop dancing on the logos,” he said. “I don’t want to be a distraction to anybody.”

The team did, however, celebrate with a postgame dance in the locker room after the AFC North-clinching victory over Indianapolis that was promptly posted to the receiver’s TikTok account.
