The Jets are listing Jeremy Kerley and LaDainian Tomlinson as questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the Bills, but Rex Ryan didn’t seem to think either key offensive piece would play in the important AFC showdown because of knee injuries.
“We absolutely have to win, but we have to win the rest of them, too,” Ryan said, according to The Associated Press. “That’s where I’m at right now. If I was a betting man, if we had to play tomorrow, I don’t think he plays.”
Both players missed practice again Friday, and Ryan said Tomlinson was closer to being listed as doubtful on the official injury report and most likely will be held out. Kerley will be a game-time decision, according to Ryan.
“It’s never fun to have injuries,” Tomlinson said, adding that his knee is “100 percent better” than it was earlier in the week. “It’s one of those things where we always feel like we can play, even though we’re injured. Sometimes it hurts us to go out there and play injured, but that’s what we do. And when you can’t play, it does make you down. That’s kind of where I am right now.”
The expected absences of Kerley and Tomlinson would be twin blows to a 22nd-ranked Jets offense that’s already struggling to put up points. Patrick Turner is likely to replace Kerley as the third-down receiver, while Joe McKnight is expected to get more of a ball-carrying workload behind starter Shonn Greene in place of Tomlinson.
