Kansas City radio host Kevin Kietzman has been yanked from the airwaves indefinitely after comments made Monday about Chiefs coach Andy Reid and his family.
On Tuesday, Sports Radio 810 WHB announced Kietzman would be kept off the air until the station reviews the matter, as noted in a statement by Union Broadcasting.
“We take Kevin’s comments and those of all on-air staff seriously. Kevin’s comments were clearly not to his or our standards. Please know that we will take necessary appropriate actions,” the statement read.
The organization concluded their note with an apology to all parties involved, namely Reid and his family.
“We sincerely apologize to Andy Reid and his family, the Kansas City Chiefs organization and our loyal listeners and share their concerns.”
During Kietzman’s broadcast on “Behind the Lines” earlier this week, the longtime host brought up the Tyreek Hill situation and appeared to chastise Reid’s coaching style, referencing his family, who had lost son Garrett to a heroin overdose in 2012.
“The thing is, they probably think they can fix him, but they thought they could fix him before and they failed. Andy Reid does not have a great record of fixing players. He doesn’t. Discipline is not his thing,” Kietzman said Monday. “It did not work out particularly well in his family life, and that needs to be added to this, as we’re talking about the Chiefs. He wasn’t real great at that either. He’s had a lot of things go bad on him, family and players.”
Kietzman issued an apology to Reid on Tuesday, stating, “What I said has been interpreted by many as hurtful, insensitive and cold, and in hearing from listeners and re-hearing what I said, I can understand why.”
“I am deeply sorry that I offended so many people, mostly, I’m sorry if I hurt Coach Reid, a man I respect greatly,” he later added.
