PHOENIX — There is widespread belief in NFL circles that the Cardinals will use the No. 1 pick in next month’s NFL draft on quarterback Kyler Murray. If that happens, Josh Rosen — their first-round pick one year ago — would become expendable and, possibly, a target for the Giants to acquire as the successor to Eli Manning.

Kliff Kingsbury, the Cardinals’ first-year head coach, said Tuesday at the NFL annual league meeting no decision has been made as to what his team will do with the top pick.

“We’re still in the information-gathering process,” Kingsbury said. “I’m not sure when that decision will be made — it’s my first time through it. But there is a lot to talk about.”

Kingsbury’s fondness for Murray is no secret. When Kingsbury was at Texas Tech this past season, he heaped praise on the Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma. Kingsbury, though, tried to clear up what he called “misconceptions’’ about the less-mobile Rosen’s supposed inability to fit into Kingsbury’s offensive system.

“People have said a lot of things that are misconceptions, if you will,’’ Kingsbury said. “But Josh is a tremendous player, I’ve always thought, watching him at UCLA. He played his best football in a spread system, some similarities to what we do. He’s a tremendous thinker, very cerebral, can throw it with anybody, and we take a lot of pride in building a system around a quarterback. For someone to say he doesn’t fit our system, it doesn’t make sense.”

Once again, Kingsbury could not help but be effusive in lauding Murray.

“I guess it’s more ‘What don’t you like?’ ’’ Kingsbury said. “When you watch him play, he can run it, he can throw it. You know, he’s a competitor. … He was one of the better Texas high school players. … I don’t know if there’s one thing you can pinpoint. He’s one of the best dual-threat players to ever play.”
