The drama of this NFL offseason between Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals has not yet dissipated.

It had been thought that the drama stemming from Murray removing all references to the franchise on his Instagram page had cooled down when he restored them to his account. But the showdown has continued with the news that the Cardinals have not yet made him a contract offer.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported the news, adding that Murray’s agent Erik Burkhardt pulled the quarterback’s initial offer off the table.

Given that Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr have all recently signed new deals worth in excess of $40 million per year, Pelissero reports that it would be a “surprise” if Murray plays on the $5.5 million he’s owed next season.

Previously this offseason, Burkhardt wrote a scathing letter urging the Cardinals to “commit” to Murray.

Murray and the Cardinals got off to a torrid start last season, opening 7-0. However, they went 4-6 in their remaining regular season games before getting bounced out of the playoffs in a 20-point blowout by the Rams.

Murray, 24, was the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and is entering his fourth season in the league.

Thus far in the contract standoff, the Cardinals have been adamant in pushing back on the idea that they would trade the quarterback. There are still about five months until the start of next football season, when this situation would officially come to a head.
