NFL free agency officially begins at 4 p.m. on March 18. That means it’s time for the return of the “Blue Rush” Giants podcast. NY Post football columnist Steve Serby and I host a special free-agency preview show.
Serby and I break down what the Giants’ plan this offseason might be with the vast amount of cap space they have available. Serby recommends they go after Byron Jones, and I question whether Jones is worth up to $18 million per season. We also examine the Leonard Williams situation: Do the Giants need to re-sign him after trading draft picks to the Jets for him and will they use a tag? With Rhett Ellison announcing his retirement and Evan Engram being injury prone, do the Giants need to get another tight end this offseason? Serby and I also look at where Tom Brady might end up this offseason.
NY Post Giants beat writer Paul Schwartz then joins the show. Schwartz looks at the Giants’ biggest needs this offseason, which include almost every position outside of quarterback and running back. He believes a veteran cornerback should be their top priority with all the youth and inexperience they have at the position. He also goes through some free agents they should pursue and can realistically sign, especially on the offensive line and at linebacker. He breaks down the Williams situation, expecting him to get the transition tag. He breaks down the exact amount of cap space the Giants have available and how they might allocate it. He also looks ahead to their No. 4 draft pick, why it may be the perfect draft in which to trade down and some other players and positions they can address in the draft.
