Rams GM Les Snead ‘not buying’ Aaron Donald retirement rumors

By Ryan Dunleavy

If Aaron Donald really is contemplating retirement, it comes as a surprise to Rams general manager Les Snead.

After two weeks of a win-one-for-Donald rallying cry among the Rams, NBC analyst Rodney Harrison explained why just hours before kickoff of Super Bowl 2022. He reported that the 30-year-old future Hall of Famer was considering walking away from football if the Rams won.

It matched up with Donald’s own pregame admission that he had nothing left to accomplish other than adding a Super Bowl to his résumé, which includes seven All-Pro selections and three Defensive Player of the Year awards in eight seasons.

NBC expected 100 million Americans to watch the event, meaning they were able to charge close to $7 million for a 30-second ad slot.

But not every ad was a hit with viewers, and there was only a small selection that set social media alight.

Sean McVay’s historic Super Bowl 2022 win comes amid speculation about Rams future

By Mark Cannizzaro

Three years ago, Sean McVay became the youngest head coach ever in a Super Bowl. His Rams lost to the Patriots, 13-3, in that game.

On Sunday night, in Super Bowl 2022 at his team’s home venue, SoFi Stadium, McVay one-upped his own feat, becoming the youngest coach ever to win a Super Bowl after his team’s 23-20 comeback victory over the Bengals.

McVay, at age 36, is a Super Bowl champion, and a humble, likable one at that.

McVay went out of his way after the game to deflect credit and pushed it his players’ way.

“It feels outstanding,’’ he said. “You talk about a resilient team — coaches, players — I’m just so proud of this group. For the offense to find a way, and then Aaron [Donald, Rams defensive lineman,] to be able to finish it off, it’s poetic, man.”

Tyler Boydu2019s first drop of season dooms critical Bengalsu2019 drive

By Brian Costello

Tyler Boyd picked a bad time for his first drop of the season.

The Bengals’ wide receiver had a Joe Burrow pass hit him right in the hands on third-and-9 with 6:20 left in the game and his team clinging to a 20-16 lead in Super Bowl LVI. Boyd had not dropped a pass all season, according to Pro Football Focus, but the ball bounced off his hands in one of the most critical moments of the Bengals’ season.

Cincinnati had to punt and the Rams moved down the field and scored the go-ahead touchdown on the next drive.

“That’s football,” Boyd said. “I don’t think I’m getting down on myself after one drop. I still needed to catch it and get the first down. But I’m human. I’m going to drop passes here and there. I don’t beat myself up over things like that.”

Al Michaels makes Super Bowl 2022 seem like a walk in the park

By Andrew Marchand

If you were making a case for the greatest NFL TV play-by-player of all time, a good way to do it would be to call a record-tying 11th Super Bowl at age 77 — and pretty much nail it.

Al Michaels has outlasted everybody in NFL broadcasting history, outperformed them at this age and on the biggest stage.

Man, it was shaping up to be Odell Beckham Jr.’s big night. He was going to lead the Rams to a Super Bowl victory, maybe even win himself an MVP award, and then the ultimate Hollywood player was going to enjoy everything Hollywood had to offer as a reward.

Of equal consequence, in OBJ World anyway, he was going to have the last laugh on the New York Football Giants and the Cleveland Football Browns.
