Pick your favorite all-angles cliché: Cover all your bases. Keep your head on a swivel. Leave no stone unturned. Address every possibility.

There are myriad potential outcomes when dealing with the NFL and fantasy football. You can’t actually cover them all, but you can try to address those few outcomes that are most likely.

This is important because earlier this week, we touted Daniel Jones as a viable streaming QB option. Don’t panic, that remains true. We still really like the Giants QB this week. If you don’t have a top-tier QB option — Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Dak Prescott or Russell Wilson — we’ll take Jones over all others in Week 3.

But when it comes to DFS, it gets complicated. Don’t panic, we still like Jones in DFS formats, to the extent that we expect him to be the best value. The problem is, a lot of people are going to feel the same.

This is where contrarian strategies come into play. To win a large tournament (where the big money is at), you need to find some players most other DFS competitors won’t use, or will avoid. This means fading popular options, even when those popular options make perfect sense.

Think: Even if Jones has a blockbuster game, if 10 percent of thousands of rosters have him, you still need a big day out of another player to separate yourself from that 10 percent. But if, say, just 1 percent have him, you have gained on almost every other entry in the field.

Quarterbacks generally don’t often exceed the avoidable usage numbers like, say, running backs. When a player is projected for more than 20 percent, we try to find ways to stay away. Jones currently is projected by Pro Football Focus at less than 2 percent. Yet we’re concerned by the amount of chatter we’ve heard and read this week from others touting Jones. We fear that number will be higher.

Not high enough, however, to avoid entirely. So we’re going to have a number of entries built around a Jones, mostly stacking with Sterling Shepard. But also, we’re going to recreate most, if not all, of these rosters for separate entries without Jones.

As an example, our flagship FanDuel roster, the one in the Daily Duel, features Jones, Saquon Barkley, Austin Ekeler, Shepard, Calvin Ridley, Scotty Miller, Travis Kelce, DK Metcalf and the Raiders’ defense.

To address the potential of Jones failing or being highly rostered, we’ll create a new one that keeps Barkley, Ekeler, Miller, Metcalf and Kelce. We can get Justin Herbert at a similar price to Jones, then stack with Keenan Allen in place of Shepard and sub in A.J. Brown for Ridley. We still have enough leftover to spend up for the Broncos’ defense.

Now, we’ll have various other rosters — some similar, some completely different — as we try to cover all those bases we talked about earlier. But how much Jones we have used will be a key factor in how those additional rosters are constructed.

Big Weeks

Javonte Williams RB, Broncos, vs. Jets (FanDuel $5,800/DraftKings $4,900)

This isn’t about the matchup vs. the defense, but rather the head-to-head between two former Tar Heels teammates — Williams and Jets rookie RB Michael Carter. Both will be itching to outperform the other. The Broncos offer the better opportunity.

Rondale Moore WR, Cardinals, at Jaguars (FD $5,600/DK $5,000)

Had 11 targets last week and was electric when he touched the ball. Why would the Cards hedge away from that success? Keep him in your lineup until further notice.

Laviska Shenault Jr. WR, Jaguars, vs. Cardinals (FD $5,400/DK $4,400)

The Jags will have to keep up with Moore and company. Shenault is getting targets (seven last week, but just two grabs). Follow the volume.

Dallas Goedert TE, Eagles, at Cowboys (FD $5,500/DK $5,100)

More based on personal history than specific matchup insight. Six of Goedert’s 13 career TDs have come against Dallas.

Small Weeks

Justin Fields QB, Bears, at Browns (FD $6,500/DK $5,200)

We can’t remember ever recommending starting a rookie for fantasy in his first game. Because we don’t trust first-time starters.

Jamies Winston QB, Saints, at Patriots (FD $6,800/DK $5,600)

Came crashing back to earth last week. Now he travels to face a defense that has allowed one TD pass and has five picks.

D’Andre Swift RB, Lions, vs. Ravens (FD $7,400/DK $5,800)

The garbage-time fantasy heroics of Week 1 were likely an anomaly. The norm probably will look more like last week, when Swift barely topped doubler-digit PPR points.

Henry Ruggs III WR, Raiders, vs. Dolphins (FD $5,600/DK $5,200)

Feel like Vegas is going to be a Lazy Susan of fantasy WRs. Last week was a Ruggs week. Watch the Raiders rotate to Bryan Edwards or Hunter Renfrow this week.
