Mac Jones might have to tone down his trash talk this season — for his own good.

In the recent Netflix documentary “Quarterback,” Patrick Mahomes said he thought that defensive linemen go a little easier on quarterbacks who are nice.

The Falcons’ defensive lineman Calais Campbell agreed with Mahomes, he told The Athletic on Tuesday at training camp — but said there’s one quarterback who pushes it too far in the other direction.

“Philip Rivers was a good trash talker, but he was never disrespectful, Mac Jones actually, he was kind of disrespectful,” Campbell said. “I’m like, ‘Hold on, man.’ [It was] just trash talk to the highest level. It was like, ‘You don’t trash talk me.’”

There’s some history between Jones and Campbell.

During a Week 3 game between the Patriots and Ravens last season, Campbell injured Jones on a tackle that NFL analyst Chris Simms called “borderline dirty.”

Jones was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and missed three games.

Campbell said he did not mean to harm Jones on the play, during which he fell on his ankle.

“The game’s on the line, fourth quarter. They made a couple of plays to kind of move the ball, and it’s just a full-court, pass-rush mentality,” Campbell told ESPN.

“I think I was just trying to get pressure on him, hit him, make him uncomfortable and make him throw an interception. And I think that was just a good football play. I hate to see him get hurt. That’s the worst part of this game. You never want to see guys get hurt. I hope he’s OK.”

Jones, entering his third year at the helm of the Patriots offense, was a Pro Bowler during his first season, leading the Patriots to the playoffs.

He regressed last year, finishing with 2,997 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions over 14 games as the Patriots went 8-9.
