Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was arrested on criminal speeding charges Wednesday morning, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM and Arizona Sports.

Brown, who was acquired by Arizona in a draft-day trade with the Baltimore Ravens this offseason, was arrested at 7:05 a.m. in north Phoenix and later taken to Maricopa County Jail.

“We are aware of the situation regarding Hollywood Brown and have reported it to the NFL office as required. We will comment further as appropriate,” the Cardinals announced in a statement.

Brown was absent from the team’s practice on Wednesday, with the reason why now being known. The 25-year-old wide receiver was put on the non-football injury list last week to begin training camp as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Brown was a costly addition for the Cardinals, who dealt the 23rd overall pick in this year’s draft in exchange for the 100th overall pick and his talents. His role on the team becomes even more important now in the wake of fellow wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins’ six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

While with Baltimore last season, Brown reeled in 91 receptions for 1,008 yards – both of which were career highs – as well as six touchdowns. This upcoming season will mark the first time the former first-round pick is playing for a team other than the Ravens in the NFL.
