Marshall Faulk is doing a bit of everything for Ezekiel Elliott: Keeping him in shape, while letting the Cowboys know the reality they face.
Elliott is making the most of his time while he holds out of Cowboys training camp amid contract negotiations, learning from the Hall of Famer Faulk.
Faulk, a seven time Pro-Bowler who played for the Colts and Rams before retiring in 2006, has been working out with Elliott in Cabo San Lucas to help Elliott stay in playing shape while the contract standoff continues.
“His fitness is great, but playing in games is different,” Faulk, who shares an agent with Elliott, told ESPN. “My job is to close that gap with putting him in active game situations. The only thing we can’t simulate is the contact.”
When asked if he thought Elliott — who’s been embroiled in a war of words with the Cowboys this summer — was willing to miss games over the notion of becoming the highest-paid running back in the NFL, Faulk turned the tables.
“The question is, are the Cowboys willing to have him miss games because they don’t believe he should be the highest-paid RB?” Faulk said.
Faulk recently suggested Dak Prescott, who’s also looking for a new deal, would become a “bum” if he got an extension.
The Cowboys reportedly made an offer to Elliott that would place him between Le’Veon Bell’s $13.125 million salary with the Jets and Todd Gurley’s $14.375 million deal with the Rams.
Elliott, a two-time Pro Bowler, was the NFL rushing leader in 2016 and 2018.
