The Seattle Seahawks could be looking to a familiar face as they gear up for another playoff run.
Ravaged by injuries at the position, the Seahawks are working toward a reunion with running back Marshawn Lynch.
“He’ll be flying in here this morning and we’re gonna give him a really good chance to come back and play for us,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told ESPN 710 AM. “I think it’s freakin’ great if he could get back out there and tote the ball for us.”
Lynch, 33, could be back in uniform Sunday night when the Seahawks face the 49ers for the NFC West title.
Seattle’s lead back, Chris Carson, has tallied 1,230 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns this season, but suffered a fractured hip and is out for the season. On top of that, backup running back C.J. Prosise broke his arm in the game and is out for the year.
This all came just two weeks after the team lost 2018 first-round pick Rashaad Penny to a torn ACL in Seattle’s 28-12 Week 14 loss to the Rams.
Lynch spent parts of six seasons with the Seahawks from 2010 to 2015, sat out 2016 and spent the past two seasons with the Raiders before saying in April he was retiring. A five-time Pro Bowler, Lynch racked up 6,347 rushing yards and 57 rushing touchdowns during his time in Seattle, and helped the team win Super Bowl 48. In 11 playoff games with Seattle, Lynch has rushed for 937 yards and nine touchdowns.
Lynch rushed for 376 yards and three touchdowns in six games with the Raiders last year.
