Observation’s from the Jets’ joint practice with the Panthers on Wednesday.

Picking it up

CB Brandin Echols got a chance to run with the starters on Wednesday with Sauce Gardner out, and he made the most of it. Echols had a pick-six of Panthers rookie QB Bryce Young.

Echols has had a quiet camp, but the Jets will need him for depth this season after he serves a one-game league suspension.

Flag Day

The Jets’ offense committed a lot of penalties.

There were several holding calls and a few calls for hands to the face.

It was a sloppy day for the offense and the officials threw a lot of flags.

Caught My Eye

OT Mekhi Becton had a good practice.

He swallowed up Panthers LB Eku Leota on one running play and brought him to the ground.

Becton remains with the second team, but the Jets need to give him some first-team reps at some point.

He is still working his way into playing shape, but there are flashes of his talent.

Rodgers Report

He finished 11-for-16 in team drills and was “sacked” twice.

Rodgers had a few nice completions, to C.J. Uzomah and Allen Lazard, but there were no dazzling moments.

Rodgers went 1-for-3 on a disappointing two-minute drill at the end of practice.

Injury report

Gardner did not practice after feeling something in his quad Tuesday.

Head coach Robert Saleh described it as precautionary.

WR Garrett Wilson (ankle) was “integrated” into practice, but it did not look like he did much.

He had no team reps.

DE Carl Lawson (back) remains out.

WR Jason Brownlee came out of practice after taking a knee to the head while diving to make a catch.
