Mike Tomlin isn’t planning on going anywhere. 

The Steelers head coach informed his players and coaches on Tuesday that he plans on coaching the team next season, according to multiple reports. 

Tomlin also called the speculation that he was thinking of stepping away “unfounded,” according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.  

While Pittsburgh has had no interest in making a coaching change and Tomlin has one more year left on his contract, speculation had begun that the longtime Steelers coach could resign after this season.

Tomlin refused to answer a question about his future in the Steel City after Monday’s wild-card loss to the Bills in Western New York. 

The Steelers head coach walked off the podium after a reporter had started to ask him about coaching next season. 

“Mike, you have a year left on your contract,” the reporter began before Tomlin made a beeline for the door. 

The report now ends the speculation that Tomlin was preparing to throw his hat in the ring of an already-crowded coaching market or that he would take a year off and then re-enter the coaching market after the 2024 season. 

The Steelers have enjoyed 17 consecutive non-losing seasons while Tomlin has been at the helm, but Pittsburgh hasn’t made it to a conference title game since 2016 and they haven’t won a Super Bowl since 2010.

Tomlin coached the Steelers to a 10-7 record despite a bit of a bumpy 2023 campaign. 

The 51-year-old has two big decisions on his plate going into next season, one being whether to give Eddie Faulkner the full-time gig as offensive coordinator and the other being who the team’s quarterback will be for the 2024 season.

Tomlin is 173-100-2 in the regular season in his 17 seasons in Pittsburgh and is 8-10 in the playoffs.
