Here’s what up next for the Giants and Jets in the second and third rounds of the NFL draft on Friday:
Giants
Second round: No picks
Third round: No. 95
Well, the first day of the NFL draft came and went, the Giants had two picks in the first round and traded for a third and they did not address their need for pass-rush help and a stud offensive tackle to plug into the line. It is difficult to find legitimate pass rushers after the first round, but if there are any left, the Giants will look to find one of them.
The trade to acquire the No. 30 pick cost the Giants their second-round pick, meaning they must wait 62 picks until they are on the clock again late in the third round at No. 95. By then, who knows which players will still be on the board. The Giants entered the draft with 12 selections and now have 10 picks.
Jets
Second round: No picks
Third round: Nos. 68 and 93
The Jets will sit out the second round Friday night unless Mike Maccagnan decides to trade up, which is unlikely. In the third round, Maccagnan needs to take at least one offensive lineman. There should be some centers there such as Connor McGovern of Penn State and Lamont Gaillard of Georgia. Keep an eye on cornerback, too. Auburn’s Jamel Dean and Clemson’s Trayvon Mullen could be there.
