Ex-Jet Alijah Vera-Tucker signing with Patriots on three-year, $42 million deal

By Christian Arnold

Alijah Vera-Tucker is now a former Jet and a new rival.

The often-injured offensive lineman agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract worth up to $48 milliion with the Patriots late Monday night, according to ESPN.

Vera-Tucker had been taken by the Jets in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but his time in East Rutherford has been marred by injuries, which included a torn triceps that occurred in practice ahead of Week 1

The Jets put him on season-ending injured reserve on Sept. 6.

Vera-Tucker had been expected to test the free agency waters and The Post’s Brian Costello reported that it had been believed that Vera-Tucker wanted a fresh start after five injury-plagued seasons with Gang Green.

There had been some thought that Vera-Tucker would be interested in going to the Giants.

The offensive line had been one of the Patriots' biggest needs this offseason and Vera-Tucker helps address that, though it comes with the caveat of his health.

Questions remain around Alvin Kamara after Saints signing

By Michael Blinn

The Saints brought hometown product Travis Etienne aboard in free agency, leaving the status of longtime star rusher Alvin Kamara way up in the air.

The 30-year-old has been a stalwart on the offensive backfield since New Orleans selected him in the third round of the 2017 draft. Over nine seasons as a dual-threat running back, he's collected 12,198 all-purpose yards and 86 touchdowns over 126 games.

The 2025 season, however, represented the worst of his career as the Saints transitioned to a bit of a rebuild with unproven quarterback play. He put up just 471 rushing yards with one trip to the end zone to go with 33 catches for 186 yards -- all career-lows.

New Orleans reworked Kamara's contract in recent weeks, paving the way for a smooth split should one occur -- and according to multiple NFL insiders, other teams are exploring just that.

His campaigned included three outings of 100-plus rushing yards, going off for 206 yards on the ground (234 total) against the Dolphins in Week 5 and following that up with 183 rushing yards (239 total) vs. the Cowboys the next week.

Dowdle ceded touches to Chuba Hubbard as the season went on, paving the way for his free agency turn.
