Josh Gordon is suspended indefinitely. That’s all we know, and for now, that’s all the NFL knows.
An NFL spokesman told The Athletic that there’s no update on the status of the ban or when there might be a review of the suspension.
The 28-year-old wide receiver has battled mental health and substance abuse issues throughout his career.
Gordon played 11 games for the Patriots, catching 40 passes for 720 yards and three touchdowns, before he announced he was stepping away to deal with mental health issues. The NFL announced shortly thereafter that Gordon was suspended indefinitely for once again violating the league’s drug policy.
He missed the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons for violating the NFL’s drug policy. He played five games during the 2017 season with Cleveland, and after scoring a touchdown in Week 1 of last season was traded to the Patriots. The Browns were preparing to release Gordon before they received a fifth-round pick from New England.
With training camp opening next month, it is surprising the NFL has yet to provide clarity on Gordon’s status.
Gordon seems to be preparing to play. Tom Brady this week posted a short clip on Instagram of him throwing a pass to Gordon during a workout. Gordon’s face isn’t visible in the clip, but ESPN confirmed Brady was throwing to Gordon on Tuesday.
