MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Kobe Bryant remained on the minds of many a week after his death, and the NFL honored his memory before Sunday night’s Super Bowl LIV.
About 30 minutes prior to kickoff, the NFL paid tribute to Bryant, his daughter Gianna and the other seven victims of last week’s helicopter crash as well as Chris Doleman, the Hall of Fame Vikings defensive end who died from cancer last week.
There was a moment of silence inside Hard Rock Stadium with a picture of Bryant and Gianna on the scoreboards as well as the names of the other victims. The Chiefs and 49ers lined up on both 24-yard lines — a nod to one of Bryant’s Lakers numbers — for the tribute following their pregame warm-ups.
49ers cornerback Richard Sherman came to the stadium wearing a Bryant jersey under his suit jacket. Sherman has been one of the most vocal players this week about his admiration for Bryant.
