The first domino of Deadline Day has fallen.
The Chiefs are trading for Melvin Ingram ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. NFL trade deadline, giving a sixth-round pick to the Steelers for the linebacker, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The 32-year old Ingram, a three-time Pro Bowler with the Chargers, has one sack and 10 tackles this season and had requested a trade, according to Rapoport. The Chiefs have been looking to bolster their defense, which ranks 29th in yardage — the main reason for their spiral to .500.
For the Steelers, who start T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith on the outside, Ingram was a relatively expendable piece.
The Chiefs’ defense played well in a win over the Giants on Monday, holding Daniel Jones and Co. to 17 points. But it has struggled against better competition this season. Just last week, the Titans scored 27 points against them, two weeks after the Bills put up 38 points in Kansas City.
