Observations from Giants training camp on Wednesday
Wall of Waller
TE Darren Waller used every bit of his 6-foot-6 frame to break free over the middle to haul in a touchdown pass from Daniel Jones. Waller then went up as if he were going to spike the ball over the crossbar — but at the last second faked the jump and stayed on the ground.
Plenty of Space
It is early.
Actually, it cannot be any earlier, considering it was the first day of camp, but the pass defense in the 7-on-7 periods — drills that definitely favor the offense — allowed too much cushion and too many openings for the receivers. On the flip side, Jones looked sharp throwing the ball.
Caught My Eye
New WR Parris Campbell lined up in the backfield and caught a swing pass for a largely uncontested touchdown in a 7-on-7 period.
Darren Waller (r.) had a big grab at Giants camp on Wednesday. USA TODAY Sports via Reuters ConThe Giants believe they can use Cambell in a variety of roles and this was an early indication of that.
Injury Report
Rookie WR Jalin Hyatt had to leave practice early because of the heat and illness.
DT A’Shawn Robinson seemed to be moving well as he watched practice from the sideline.
Robinson started off his first camp with the Giants on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing knee surgery last season with the Rams.
