Dez Bryant wants to play for a contender.
Taking to Twitter on kickoff Sunday, the former Cowboys receiver conversed with fans, stating he fantasizes about lining up alongside Rob Gronkowski.
“Naw I’m ok …” Bryant, 29, began to a follower who asked him to return, as the Cowboys fell to the Panthers, 16-8.
“I rather go somewhere I can show case my skills for real .. if I line up next to Gronk [wide receiver Chris] Hogan [Julian] Edelman I’m for sure getting a 1 on 1 match up plus I won’t be getting criticized controlled for expressing my love for the game.”
The Cowboys looked dismal in their loss to the Panthers, struggling on offense in their first game without Bryant and retired tight end Jason Witten. Bryant appeared to be mocking those troubles.
The Patriots became something of a revolving door for receivers this offseason, starting with Danny Amendola departing New England for Miami in free agency. Fellow wideout Kenny Britt was released, and former Jets standout Eric Decker announced his retirement shortly before the start of the season.
New England opened the season 1-0, with Sunday’s 27-20 victory over the Texans, sans Edelman, who is serving a four-game suspension following a PED violation.
Bryant said he wouldn’t mind staying within the NFC East with the Redskins and said he’s closing the book on the Cowboys for good.
“After today I’m done talking about the Cowboys,” Bryant tweeted. “If I try to say something good or factual it always turned out to be a negative plus I don’t want it to seem that’s where I’m focused I know the team well so it’s hard not for me to speak … all I ever cared about was winning.”
Bryant was released from the Cowboys in April after eight seasons in Dallas. Though his production declined in recent years, Bryant believes there is still enough gas left in his tank, prompting interest from both the Ravens and the Browns. While he remains without a new home, the wideout isn’t begging for a job.
“I just have to take care of me first,” Bryant penned on Twitter in late August. “Gave to much love and not received at least half back … I will play ball this year just might be a lil bit later in the year .. we will see.”
