Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who entered Monday as the odds-on favorite to win the NFL MVP, could miss time with a shoulder injury.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Hurts is “uncertain” to play in Philadelphia’s game on Saturday versus the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport added that there is a “real chance” backup QB Gardner Minshew is the starter in the game, but reported Hurts’ injury “isn’t considered long term.”

The injury happened during the Eagles’ 25-20 win over the Bears on Sunday. There did not seem to be any indication during or immediately after the game that the 24-year-old was hurt.

The reports of a “sprained shoulder” are in contrast to unverified rumors that have been spreading on the internet Monday that Hurts “likely” sustained a broken collarbone and would miss the rest of the season.

There were dramatic changes in the gambling market before the injury was announced. Eliot Shorr-Parks of WIP observed that Hurts began the day at -150 – meaning bet $150 to win $100 – to win the MVP and had fallen as low as +200 (bet $100 to win $200) before being taken off the board at many books.

Hurts has had a magnificent season. He’s completed 67.3 percent of his passes, for 3,472 yards and 22 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He’s also rushed for 747 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Eagles are 13-1 and have a two-game lead over the Vikings for the top seed in the NFC and a three-game lead over the Cowboys atop the NFC East, with three games left to play.
