Kris Jenkins is keeping the Jets involved as the defensive tackle recovers from a second serious knee injury.

If the Jets want Jenkins involved with them next season, he doesn’t know.

NJ.com reports Jenkins is working out in New Jersey in an attempt to return to the NFL after his previous two seasons were ended by torn knee ligaments.

The report says Jenkins talks to Jets trainers “every few days.” The former Pro Bowl player is one of many decisions the Jets have to make about their 2011 roster.

“I’m not even going to lie and act like that’s something I don’t think about,” Jenkins said, according to the website. “When you’re looking at (the team’s) big strategy, I’m just one person. I’m not going to walk into a situation and be so arrogant to be like, ‘Oh, I’m going to be fine because I’m Kris Jenkins.’ I wish.

“I like what I’m doing; I know when I’m healthy, I can play with the best of them. But I did get hurt two years in a row. It’s a decision they have to make.”

Last month at an end-of-season press conference, GM Mike Tannenbaum said the team would “take a long look” at Jenkins.

“When we got Kris, we were so excited about him coming here. We were even more excited to have him play in Rex (Ryan’s) defense. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had the participation we had hoped he would have, but we will look at that as well,” Tannenbaum said in a transcript provided by the team.

“We haven’t made a decision. It would be very intriguing to see what he can do over a 16-week season and play under Rex. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened yet, but we will take a long look at his situation.”

Jenkins’ brother Cullen won the Super Bowl with the Packers. Kris said he did not go to Dallas for the game so he could stay on his workout schedule.
