Jets WR Santonio Holmes was carried off the field and carted from the sidelines in the fourth quarter against the 49ers with a left foot injury. He won’t return.
Holmes went down immediately after catching a 4-yard pass from Mark Sanchez. As Holmes fell to the ground, he fumbled the ball and immediately grabbed his left leg.
San Francisco cornerback Carlos Rogers recovered the fumble and returned it for a touchdown, extending the 49ers’ lead to 24-0.
Holmes’ injury depletes and already decimated Jets receiving corps which was without Dustin Keller and Stephen Hill.
The injury to Holmes comes a week after the Jets lost their best player, Darrelle Revis, to a torn ACL.
