With the Jets appearing destined to be at the top of the 2018 NFL Draft, all eyes are on the college quarterbacks for Jets fans.
We will give you our rankings of the quarterbacks each week during the college season. Here is our list after Week 3:
1. Sam Darnold, USC
Last week: 28-of-49, 397 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT, 54.1 QBR in a 27-24 win over Texas in overtime
This week: at California, Saturday, 3:30 p.m., ABC
This was not Darnold’s best game, but he showed some magic at the end to force overtime, where the Trojans prevailed. Darnold missed plenty of throws, but some of the ones he made were jaw-dropping. The jump pass on the final drive in regulation was big time. It is hard to see Darnold dropping on this list.
2. Josh Rosen, UCLA
Last week: 34-of-56, 463 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT, 1 rushing TD, 68.9 QBR in a 48-45 loss to Memphis
This week: at Stanford, Saturday, 10:30 p.m., ESPN
UCLA-Memphis was the most entertaining game of the week. The up-and-down affair showcased Rosen’s skills, but also showed one of the NFL’s worries about him. The two interceptions were brutal throws. One came off his back foot, the other was a throw across his body to midfield. Stanford’s talented secondary provides a good test for him this week.
3. Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State
Last week: 23-of-32, 497 yards, 5 TD, 1 INT, 97.9 QBR in a 59-21 win over Pittsburgh
This week: vs. No. 16 TCU, Saturday, 3:30 p.m., ESPN
It is time to shake up the top three. Josh Allen has not lived up to the hype. Rudolph continues to impress. He delivered a masterpiece on Saturday against Pitt. I think you’ll start hearing his name soon as a first-round pick. He has tremendous skills.
4. Josh Allen, Wyoming
Last week: 9-of-24, 64 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 1 rushing TD, 11.5 QBR in a 49-13 loss to Oregon
This week: vs. Hawaii, Saturday, 10:15 p.m., ESPN2
Some NFL scouts believe Allen has the best arm in the country. He may, but he has not been the best quarterback. Allen had a terrible game against the Ducks, the last big-time opponent Wyoming will face in the regular season. He tweaked his ankle in the game to add to his issues. Right now, NFL GMs have to be wondering if Allen is legit.
5. Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma
Last week:
17-of-27, 331 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT, 93.3 QBR in a 56-14 win over Tulane
This week: at Baylor, Saturday, 6:30 p.m., FS1
Mayfield followed up his big win at Ohio State with another impressive performance, this one against a lesser opponent. Mayfield is not considered a top prospect, but if he keeps playing the way he has, he will enter the conversation.
