Cooper is being held on three separate charges — one count of domestic violence summons and complaint, one count of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief $300-1,000. His bond has been set at $1,000, a jail official told The California Post on Friday.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by 9News, Cooper and his girlfriend were both taken into police custody following an altercation they were involved in at the football player’s apartment.

Cooper and the woman were allegedly arguing over cheating allegations, when the woman “grabbed Cooper’s phone from him and threw it across the room, then picked it up to go through it,” the report stated.

Cooper and the woman then got into a physical scuffle as the former Ohio State Buckeye took his phone back from her, according to the report.

Cooper, per the affidavit, “braced his neck against [her] neck to prevent her from getting his phone.”

He then told her he was going to destroy her phone, before he bit and broke it, according to the affidavit.

The Broncos told 9News they were “aware of the matter and are gathering more information.”

The Broncos selected Cooper in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and after playing sparingly in his first two seasons in the league, he had a breakout year in 2023, logging 8.5 sacks.

In November 2024, he signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension.

In five seasons in Denver, he’s totaled 31.5 sacks and 266 combined tackles.

He played in all three of the Broncos’ playoff games this past season, recording one sack in the team’s AFC Championship game loss to the Patriots.

News of Cooper’s arrest was first reported by TMZ.
