Wes Welker now wishes he never dipped his toes into the Rex Ryan foot-fetish story.

The Patriots wide receiver told the Boston Herald he regrets his subtle shots at the Jets coach during the lead-up to the Jets-Patriots AFC Divisional game.

Welker made a dozen foot references during his press conference that week.

“Yeah, sure I do,” said Welker, who was benched for the first series of the Jets’ 28-21 playoff win for making the comments.

“I’m not going to get into any details about it, but I don’t think it’s worth putting coach [Bill Belichick] in that situation,” he said. “So in a sense, I do regret it. . . . As much as you might want to get enticed into that stuff, at the end of the day, it’s just not worth it.”

Among phrases Welker used during his pregame news conference were, “putting your best foot forward,” “sticking your toe in the water” and “being good little foot soldiers.”
