Rather than serve his six-game suspension for a domestic violence allegation, defensive tackle Roy Miller says he will retire from the NFL.

And who does he say is to blame for his departure from the league? His estranged wife, who recently sought an emergency restraining order against the former Chief last week for allegedly ripping off the door handle of her SUV in a custody argument.

“I am officially retiring from the NFL,” Miller announced in an Instagram post. “Unfortunately my ex is trying everything she can to ruin any opportunity for me to work for my kids. This has caused me much pain. Had some interest [from] teams but until the divorce goes through I can’t even contemplate putting a team through the drama.”

Miller was cut by the Chiefs two days after he was arrested for domestic battery in November. His wife accused him of ripping hair out of her head. He became a free agent and hasn’t stepped on a field since. His suspension was announced last month.

“The lies not only hurt my chances of working but my children’s opportunities to live normal lives. I have lived my life to try [to] be … respectable and honorable, not only to my family but my communities,” Miller said. “I have made mistakes but I am not who this person is playing me out to be. My only intention from this point forward is to try and give my children the best chance at normalcy.

“I am literally in tears as I write this,” added Miller, who played for the Buccaneers (four seasons), Jaguars (four seasons) and the Chiefs (seven games).

Miller’s wife filed for a divorce from the 30-year-old in March. According to TMZ Sports, she called Miller a “violent alcoholic” and claimed he has taken large sums of money out of their joint bank account.
