Osi back at practice

Defensive end Osi Umenyiora returned to practice on Tuesday, a day after leaving Giants headquarters without telling the coaches.
“Osi came in yesterday afternoon. We sat down, we had an opportunity to say what needed to be said and he was very good about it,” Tom Coughlin said today in a transcript released by the Giants. “He was humble, indicated that he knew he was wrong. He apologized, we had some thoughts exchanged about going forward and he had an opportunity to meet with Bill Sheridan and his position coach Mike Waufle as well.
“Those conversations, although I was not in the room, were again in the spirit of trying to get better. That’s what everybody is here for, everybody is here to try and be the best possible team we can be and there is absolutely nothing but good feelings about this one.”
Umenyiora said after practice on Tuesday that the issue was so trivial that he surprised himself the way he reacted.
Umenyiora said he returned to the Giants headquarters while the team was practicing on Monday and later met with Sheridan and coach Tom Coughlin. He said everything is back to normal, though he said the amount of his fine was enough to feed a lot of people in undeveloped countries. Umenyiora did not disclose the amount.
Coughlin, asked about punishment for Umenyiora, said, “That is between the player and myself.”
The coach denied that Umenyiora’s departure was caused by a disagreement with new defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan.
“No, I don’t think so,” Coughlin said. “I think he (Umenyiora) got emotional and did something that he wished he didn’t do, but he did it.”
