There’s one word to describe the Panthers’ 2023 season.
“F–k,” Panthers owner David Tepper said while leaving the locker room Sunday, according to The Athletic, after the Panthers fell to 1-10 with a 17-10 loss to the Titans.
That four-letter reaction proved to a bad omen for head coach Frank Reich, whom Tepper fired Monday morning.
It marked the second straight season in which Tepper fired his coach midseason after dismissing Matt Rhule — now coaching Nebraska — just five games into the 2022 season.
Reich also has now been axed during the season in back-to-back years after being let go by the Colts last season.
It’s not surprising that Tepper, following his outburst, moved on from Reich as he made it clear Sunday that he’s upset and he has shown during his ownership tenure that he does not have a long leash.
Tepper likely knew there were media cameras around when he unleashed that expletive, and letting the media see his frustration could have been a calculated move.

Fox’s Jay Glazer reported on Nov. 19 that Reich’s “seat is getting quite hot” and “without a doubt, Frank Reich has the hottest seat in the league.”
Will Kunkel of Fox26 in Houston then reported Sunday that Reich’s hot seat is now “on fire.”
Tepper will now search for his fourth head coach since he bought the team in 2018, with each of the last three coaches — including Ron Rivera in 2019 — being fired midseason.
The owner surely will be looking for an offensive-oriented head coach who can help get the most out of No. 1 pick Bryce Young.

Stroud and promising prospect Anthony Richardson.
While Stroud looks like a franchise-changing player, Young, an Alabama product, has just nine touchdowns and eight interceptions.
He completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards and zero touchdowns Sunday, his fourth straight game — and sixth time overall — tallying less than 200 passing yards.
Reich is an offensive-minded coach and the fact that he couldn’t product results with Young — who reportedly may have been picked by Tepper — seemingly was held against him.

Reich said he did not talk to Tepper after the game, but insisted the Panthers are not far away from winning some of these games.
The Panthers visit the Buccaneers on Sunday with special teams coordinator Chris Tabor set to serve as interim coach.
“What are you going to do? You’re 1-10. What, are you going to start feeling sorry for yourself? You’re going to think something will magically fix everything? No,” Reich said after Carolina’s fourth straight loss. “We lost a close football game today.
“These games are winnable. That message doesn’t fly when you’re 1-10, but I know these games are winnable. I know we have the players and the coaches to do that. So we regroup, and we get ready for this week.”
