Tom Brady’s decision to leave the Patriots after 20 years on a St. Patrick’s Day where all Massachusetts bars are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic is a sick joke for Boston fans.

The response to Brady’s Instagram post Tuesday morning, where he first announced that his “football journey will take place elsewhere,” has varied. From fury to gratitude to belief that the world might actually be ending. Because between coronavirus and Tom Brady no longer being a New England Patriot, that must be what it means.

Most of the comments on Brady’s two-post “Thank You” to New England were reciprocated, while others simply tried bargaining with the four-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback to stay.

Others worried for Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who is known to have a sort of “bromance” with Brady. The duo have been teammates since 2009, with Brady saying he thinks of Edelman as a “little brother.”

TB12’s dramatic departure from the Patriots came during a time when the world is in chaos due to the coronavirus. It’s seemingly the only news that could ever give the deadly virus a run for the top story of the day. Though it should be noted that the quarterback’s timing was forced given the NFL league year controversially starting Monday despite the outbreak.
