Foxborough’s finest gave new meaning to the Patriot Way on Sunday night.
As the Chiefs mounted a comeback against the Patriots, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes found receiver Tyreek Hill streaking down the field for a 75-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. As Hill slowed down near the wall, Patriots fans showered him with beer and flipped him the middle finger.
Despite the late-game rally, the Chiefs ultimately fell short as Stephen Gostkowski kicked the game-winning field goal on the final play, sealing the Patriots’ 43-40 victory. Following the loss, Hill addressed the fans’ behavior.
“My coach [Andy Reid] told me, ‘Don’t get emotional, don’t get mad about it because it comes with the territory,'” Hill said, according to NESN. “I’m not mad at all.”
Following the incident, the Patriots announced Monday the fan responsible will be banned from attending future events at Gillette Stadium.
“Gillette Stadium security has identified the fan who violated the fan code of conduct by tossing beer onto a player during the game last night. The matter has been turned over to local law enforcement and the fan will be sent a letter of disinvite,” the statement read.
The Chiefs will face the Bengals next Sunday.
