For the time being at least, the Patriots have made a decision on their starting quarterback.

ESPN’s Field Yates reports that Mac Jones will start against the Jets on Sunday, after taking 90 percent of the practice reps with the first team on Wednesday.

Jones was the incumbent starter heading into the season, but suffered an ankle injury Week 3 against the Ravens.

After Brian Hoyer sustained a concussion against the Packers, Bailey Zappe quarterbacked the team to an overtime loss, but then to two victories — over the Lions and Browns.

Jones started this past Monday night against the Bears, but was pulled in the first half for Zappe after three bad possessions.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick would not commit to a starter in his press conference before practice. He repeatedly said, “we’ll see how it goes today” when asked about the decision.

For the past two weeks, Belichick has repeatedly declined to name who is the starter. Against the Bears, ESPN’s Adam Schefter forecasted before the game that both Jones and Zappe would see time.

In another element of mystery, Belichick told ESPN’s Lisa Salters at halftime that both Jones and Zappe would get snaps at quarterback in the second half – and then Jones never returned to the game.

After game-managing the Patriots to a playoff berth last season as a rookie, Jones has thrown six interceptions and just two touchdown passes this season.

Jones was a first-round pick out of Alabama in 2021. The rookie Zappe was selected out of Western Kentucky in the fourth round.

The 3-4 Patriots are two-and-a-half-point road favorites over the 5-2 Jets at MetLife Stadium this Sunday.
